Brake lights work with the foot brake but not with the hand lever. Where should I start to diagnosis the problem?

Check the switch at the MC for continuity. Should be zero reading at rest so to speak.

Probably the points inside the switch need to be cleaned. The switch is fused closed but can be opened by cutting the plastic river top off and opened and cleaned. The small mounting through bolt will hold it all together when installed. Than you can order a replacement.

At the lever, disconnect the two wires. Remove one screw and then spray some contact cleaner into a very small hole in the switch housing. Operate the button with fingers several times. Replace and test again. Replace switch if no joy.

If it is the switch and cleaning is unsuccessful, a new one can be had for around $24.00
